The State Department has released the latest batch of Hillary Clintons messages from her time running the agency, the latest disclosure from the private email system that has become a focus of GOP political attacks in the White House race.
The over 7,000 pages posted online, which were sent or received in 2009 and 2010, is by far the largest of the rolling monthly releases that State is providing under a judges order in a high-profile public records lawsuit.
Around 150 of the newly released messages have been redacted because an ongoing inter-agency review has determined that they contain classified information, State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters earlier Monday.
He said that none of them were marked classified when originally sent or received. Clinton, after initially saying in March that there was no classified information in the system, has softened her position to say that there was no information that was marked classified when sent or received.
According to published reports, and a scan of the messages, the redacted emails in the new batch are marked confidential, which is the lowest level of classification.
Questions about classified content has fed GOP allegations that Clinton behaved recklessly with such information, which is supposed to be sent over special secure networks. In particular, the inspector general for intelligence agencies has said that at least two messages from a limited number sampled contained top-secret information, the highest level of classification.
However, the State Department and Clintons campaign note that there are often disagreements within the government about what information should be considered classified, and many experts also say that excessive secrecy that is, overclassification is a major problem....

I have personally observed that a lot of material marked "classified" can be found in newspapers and magazines around the world. It's either hubris or stupidity that ends up classifying some stuff. People like to pretend they are important, so they'll put their little (C) and (S) and (TS) and NOFORN all over their work product to make themselves seem more significant than they actually are.
If you can read it in the Times of India, it ain't a secret.

(13,069 posts)1. I would feel violated if the whole world could read my e-mails. I understand that they are public record. And so are the e-mails of everyone who works for the government. But, to have my day to day conversations exposed to everyone would be difficult.
2. She is a very good person. People who work with her a loyal and love her.
3. A couple of them cracked me up. She was so exited to get an IPad and then asked Huma to teach her how to use it.
4. Her life is so normal in such an abnormal environment. "Mubarak would like to talk to you..." and then the next e-mail is scheduling lunch with a friend.
I think these e-mails provide insight to her that is missing from our ugly media and uglier attacks by "democrats." They show her human side. I know they will be twisted and distorted, but if people can see through the BS, I think they help her.
