Hillary Clinton in Chicago: I've got to earn voters' trust

Hillary Clinton on Monday tried to unite disparate elements of the Democratic Party behind her presumptive nomination, using a stop in Chicago to acknowledge she needs to do more than talk to earn the trust of voters.

Speaking for nearly a half-hour at an international women's luncheon of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition at McCormick Place, the former secretary of state also decried gun violence in Chicago and throughout the nation, calling it "a civil rights issue."

Clinton, who was born in Chicago and raised in suburban Park Ridge, made few references to her likely GOP rival, presumptive nominee and controversial businessman Donald Trump. Delivering a largely low-key talk, she indicated her belief that Trump has been a beneficiary of voters who have lost trust with government.

"Now, I personally know that I have work to do on this front. A lot of people tell pollsters they don't trust me," said Clinton, who blamed "25 years' worth of wild accusations" that would make anyone question her.

I am excited by our brilliant and more than qualified candidate! I was in HER Presidential bid camp in 2008. Actually I have been on HER Camp since she and Pres Clinton came to public awareness, plus she was Senator here in NY too.

Donald Trump ... or who believes that Hillary has to "earn their trust" to get their vote (effectively the same thing because it will be Trump vs Hillary in the GE unless something thoroughly unforeseen occurs) ... needs their head examined. If they claim to be "liberal" or "progressive," they aren't.

While I much prefer nuance because life IS nuanced, in this GE choice there are NO grays whatsoever. It's either/or. Not voting or writing in anyone else's name effectively = a vote for one of the two candidates.

But I am glad that she is bringing this meme out into the open and speaking about it.

The truth is she is honest , more so than others because she knows they are ready to attack anything she says or does.

that most people think she is untrustworthy and crooked due to things that are out of her control (i.e. what the media and the GOP say about her and how they portray her). There is only so much she can do on her own to correct the record about her. It makes me cringe when pundits equate her unfavorability numbers with Trump's, as if they both came to be as high as they are for the same reasons. Hers are high because of what others say, but Trump's are high because of what he says.
