HRC GROUP -The Clinton rules are at the heart of the New York Times's botched Hillary story

http://www.vox.com/2015/7/28/9059953/clinton-rules-new-york-times

As many of you know, I keep linking to Jonathan Allen's origianl vox article about the 5 Clinton rules for the media.
Here is his follow-up article.

-------------------------------

I's hard to foul up a major story as badly as the New York Times did with last week's big — and erroneous — scoop that two US inspectors general had asked the Justice Department to open a criminal investigation into whether Hillary Clinton mishandled sensitive or classified information in using a personal account to email with State Department officials and friends.

As it turned out, most of the important points in the story were wrong — really wrong. The Times changed its reporting online and, too slowly, issued two corrections. But as the Times's public editor, Margaret Sullivan, observed in a scathing autopsy of the article, "You can’t put stories like this back in the bottle — they ripple through the entire news system."

This episode is a particularly illustrative example of how an unspoken set of "Clinton rules" govern the media's treatment of Clinton and how that ends up distorting the public view of her. ( Original article: http://www.vox.com/2015/7/6/8900143/hillary-clinton-reporting-rules )

--------snip----------

No matter Clinton's level of culpability for any given sin — real or imagined — the Clinton rules are a drag on her political fortunes. If she's consistently the subject of negative stories, it can't help but hurt her standing with a public exhausted by a quarter-century of partisan Clinton wars. And she is constantly the subject of negative stories, some of which would be handled more judiciously if they were about another figure.

Me: And people wonder why she has higher "unfavorables"

But the incentives to destroy Clinton are so strong that it happens to her a lot. The public suffers not just for that but for the liberty it grants Clinton and her allies to conflate erroneous reports with solid stories and argue that it's all bogus.

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Sanders, but I do with the group promoting him on DU. They reach into the past to republish the same distortions that have been debunked in the past and then make sure that they pin every perceived mistake that Bill made in policy on to her. It makes me sick that DU would stoop to the teaparty repugs level. Why do these DUers have to denigrate Hillary. Stick to what her policies are not to what the repugs have published. Sanders is speaking to the Democratic base and making promises that I know he cannot keep. Bill and Barrack made many promises in their campaigns that they could not keep.

From their posts I gather that they are extremely vitriolic towards anyone who has money.

The assumption is that everyone who has money has obtained it with uncouth means and is a criminal. It doesn't matter how legitimate the money is.

I keep hearing the same BS -- "Clintons were flat broke when they left the White House in 2000 and now have a net worth of $80 million." Then they attack Bill's speaking engagements and the fees, pinning them on Hillary.

If you read their posts, you'll see the theme play out over and over.

if not higher. They are wonderful people and first class human beings. Because they are Atheists their family spends Sunday mornings helping at a Trenton soup kitchen. My Brother has been active in town politics and (although they could afford exclusive schools) was a member of the PTA of the public school my nieces attended. They live below their means and are unfailingly generous to the charities they support, their families and their friends.

They are all life long Democrats yet they desire or need very little from the government except a better, safer and fairer world for their daughters. My Brother was active in campaigning for Rush Holt and one of my nieces worked as his intern.

They retired this year into full time volunteer work using their considerable intelligence and skills helping to create a jobs program for single mothers and single fathers who are homeless. It's actually an incredible project started by a successful retired business woman and funded by the wealthiest Democrat in the state. It provides a home, child care, medical support, clothing and job counseling all under one roof and it is staffed by volunteers from the business community. These are the Hillary supporters who work for banks and investment firms, attend large donor events and actually devote their time and money to their communities. They don't have a lot of free time to be spreading hate and lies on the internet like Bernie's army of Reddit and DU supporters

Hillary has had decades of hate to deal with. And no one is ever going to convince me there isn't a certain internalized misogyny that drives this hate in many people. I think this because it's so unreal, so over the top, that it defies true explanation.
