Liberal media turns on SandersBy Niall Stanage - 05/19/16 06:00 AM EDT
Bernie Sanders is suddenly facing a barrage of criticism from liberal commentators.
As the fallout from last weekends Nevada Democratic convention spreads, sharply critical pieces about the White House hopeful and his campaign have appeared in progressive outlets such as Mother Jones, Talking Points Memo and Daily Kos within the past 48 hours.
The Sanders campaign has also taken hits from progressive CNN contributor Sally Kohn, who endorsed the Vermont senator from the stage at a massive rally in New York City just before the Empire States April primary.
Kohn wrote an article published Wednesday for Time magazine that was headlined, I felt the Bern but the Bros are extinguishing the flames.

(9,263 posts)and fanning the flames of chaos at our convention...he is turning out to be the angry old socialist leading a mob of anarchists....with little for democrats, liberals and progressives to do about it as he launches a full scale destruction of the Democratic Party.....that will be caught 24/7 on cable news....
Just saying...this is what happens when we allow a lifelong socialist into our primary system....a man who has done little for democrats except use them

They didn't notice the Molotov cocktail that had "Democratic Party" written on it that he had in his back pocket.

If that means putting Sanders speech on at 3am and taking the TV cameras out of the room, well, so be it.

(2,542 posts)...that HRC supporters were not welcome any more. They grabbed the tiger's tail of the Bernie hysteria and can't figure out how to let go yet.
This whole primary exposed a dangerous, and frankly disappointing, strain of anti-intellectualism and reality-denialism among supposed leftists and alleged progressives. It's been quite the education for me, learning that people I thought were allies don't think of me that way. I don't want to associate with "progressives" who malign women, who harass and dox them, who shout women down when they try to speak. Nor with "progressives" who dismiss black voters based on where they live, or older voters just for being older. Those are not progressive values.
And Salon has been at the head of that faux-Left movement, along with HuffPo and every other site dumb it desperate enough to publish The Libertarian HA Goodman. It's far too late to pretend like it never happened.

(27,813 posts)Now I'm adding in that I'm thinking that in some cases, the violence at the Trump rallies was, at least some of the time, initiated by the fringe of the Sanders crowd.
What makes me absolutely angry over it all is that I have a lot of friends and family who support him and this is letting them down. I have one friend in particular, a lot younger than I am, who has gone out campaigning, gone to the caucuses, got appointed an alternate delegate, and so forth, when he previously was pretty disengaged from politics. I'm not going to get into a conversation with him about it because I feel for him (I don't think he realizes yet how deeply Sanders' good ideas are being so completely betrayed), but I hate to see people who were honestly excited by the candidacy caught in this bowl of muck. The people I know are completely not violent and would never shout a planned speaker off the stage at a convention and now they have to be associated with this.

(297,323 posts)I am so grateful that he's showing the world what many of us have known for so long.
He's been getting away with his crap for far too long.. maybe that's why he feels he can continue and no one can touch him?
We'll see about that.
I applaud Kos for strongly speaking out Against BS..
Money quote from Sally Kohn..
Reflecting on the events in Nevada and the aftermath, Kohn said there was too much equivocation for her tastes in Sanderss response.
There is always a but But theyre passionate; but its rigged, she said.
Has he done everything he can to truly distance himself from this kind of behavior in the full sense of moral leadership? I dont think he has.
Nice and refreshing to see a big ol dose of reality coming from a former BS fan.
Thank you, working~

(9,263 posts)Why sanders fails with voters over 45.....he had a choice to accept defeat and ratchet down his rhetoric....but chose not to...continuing to fan the flame of chaos at our convention...his intent is clear...his mob out of control....and July convention will be a repeat oh 1968 Chicago...with little to be done to stop it.
Walk away
(9,494 posts)after the D.C. primary. Once the votes are officially counted and Hillary has the majority of delegates and votes, Bernie will have a month of waiting around as his campaign deflates.
I think the plan was to steal as many pledged delegates as possible at the state conventions but....the stupid, violent fiasco his campaign waged at the Nevada convention has put an end to that bullshit going forward. Hillary is on to it and she out maneuvered them by being better prepared and smarter!
Plus, the horrible threats the Bernie Bros made to Roberta Lange have probably rated the FBI being involved. Bernie better be very careful about what he tells his hot headed campaigners to say to Delegates going forward.

Walk away
(9,494 posts)ridiculous Bernie and his supporters are, then so be it. I think if Bernie wants to go out with a bang he is going to let them do it. Hopefully, no one gets hurt or, if they do, the damage is limited to the violent protesters and all of the Delegates, Press and Law Enforcement stay safe.

(1,630 posts)The media is finally beginning to actually criticize Bernie. There is little doubt his supporters will be crushed under the weight of a negative press because he has been handled with kid gloves thus far. They are desensitized to the onslaught of negative, actually vile press Hillary is subjected to but now will now have just a minuscule taste of the antagonism she has endured for decades. He and his supporters are being revealed to be so out of their depth, it is ridiculous.
In addition to his lack of composure or having a temperament to be leader of the free world, Bernie suffers from a disturbing moral relativism that causes him to condone violence if it serves to advance what he sees as his righteous cause. His situational ethics are being called out by everyone at this point and if he and his supporters were smart, they would unequivocally denounce it. But he won't because he lacks the character to do so.
I predict he will be unable to stay calm or on message and will become even more hostile to the press, the party and the "establishment". He may have been a politician for decades but he is reacting like a rookie on the public stage. If you can't handle the heat without a tantrum, global politics may not be the best fit for your skills. If he needs examples on the way to behave with grace under fire, he would do well to learn from President Obama and soon-to-be President, Hillary Clinton.

(24,396 posts)and dotes on him for coming so far.
But once it's over, any coverage will be about how he lost to Hillary, and how much the behavior of the Bros was responsible for his loss, and - more importantly - how HE egged on his Bros to commit the acts of violence and intolerance they displayed during the campaign.
Even Nixon got a chance to rehabilitate himself to the public, but I don't see that happening for Sanders, who has turned out to be nothing more than a self-centered asshole. At least Nixon got some good things done, like opening up China, creating the EPA and eventually ending the war in Nam. More important, Nixon wasn't a milquetoast communist (or socialist - it doesn't matter what you call Sanders. Americans don't know the difference) who verbally tried to destroy his Party, even though - like Sanders - he felt that everyone was against him.
No, Americans will not look fondly on Sanders going forward. In fact, once the reality of Hillary's presidency sinks in and the Ds are back in control of the Senate, the country will get back to the important business that the Rs have been blocking for the past 6 years. The SCOTUS will be put on a decades-long progressive path, the ACA will be tweaked, college tuition will be addressed (my daughter actually thinks Hillary's plan is much better than Sanders' "free" fantasy) and the name Bernie Sanders will remind people of unruly crowds of misogynistic white boys who deep down couldn't stand that they weren't going to get free cell phones along with that free college and healthcare Sanders promised.
