(86,646 posts)I was thrilled when he became a Senator even though I'm way over in Montana. I'd like to see more Senators like him.

(9,267 posts)Deep blue Minnesota has a D Governor who would certainly put another well qualified Dem in the Senate in his place. Unlike another possible VP pick, Sherrod Brown from Ohio.
I think Al Franken would be a superb choice for running mate.

(9,688 posts)Much better than any of the other "mentionables", IMHO.
Julian Castro is mentioned constantly, presumably because he checks all the demographic boxes (Texas, Latino, young, etc etc), but I don't think he really has the chops to be an effective running mate. He may be a "rising star", but I don't think he's nearly seasoned enough.
I don't much like the other choices either.
Al Franken on the other hand. . YES!!

(32,623 posts)I think his past as a comedian would weaken the ticket in the general.
And he has been a highly effective Senator for MN -they love him so it's a seat we'll hold. MN isn't a swing state so he wouldn't offer geographical strength to the ticket.
He'd be an amazing veep but he also doesn't add any demographic strength.
