(15,369 posts)about a month ago and am SO much happier for it. One can only hope that it will secede - or be made to secede - from DU because the principal goal seems to be to damage HRC as much as possible using whatever slime from whatever source possible. That seems to me to be totally against DU's TOS. JMHO.

(12,409 posts)There is a feel one gets when hearing and reading the repug rhetoric that mirrors Sanders supporters..... I felt it for weeks now right here on DU.

(12,409 posts)Someone even mentioned that we have sleeper cell groups imbedded... They come out when they want to divide and conquer a candidate or issue...I have to agree.

(27,815 posts)... DU years ago, right after Obama was elected. They then declared themselves BS supporters - which gave them "cover" to continue Dem-bashing and HRC-bashing under the guise of being pro-Bernie.
Many more have joined since BS announced, knowing they would be accepted as being Democratic Bernie supporters as long as they posted anti-HRC and anti-Dem Party posts.
Most of them are easy to spot - they rarely if ever say anything pro-Bernie, but restrict their posts to anti-HRC rhetoric and RW talking points.
FarPoint
(12,409 posts)Sleeper Cell warriors....It's a damn same this can't be fixed....DU is capable of fabulous discussion.... It was so fine and fun in the beginning.
NanceGreggs
(27,815 posts)It was a place for Democrats to discuss, share ideas and information. Now it's just another site where anyone can butt-in - the only caveat being that the RWers have to "pretend" to be Democrats.
Right now, the entire board is like free advertising space for RWers - they post every anti-HRC/anti-Dem bullshit story they can find, often lifted directly from RW sources.
Why Skinner is allowing these people to use DU as a billboard to promote RW talking points, along with sowing divisiveness among the actual Democrats still here, is anybody's guess. DU's traffic has steadily gone downhill since the days when the site was Democrats only - so it doesn't even make business sense to have allowed this to occur.
FarPoint
(12,409 posts)I can only imagine that they have become " grown up" and family men now....the personal love and bonding is now managed by a program application...
NanceGreggs
(27,815 posts)... when he started DU, and those circumstances have changed - and certainly have an impact.
What I don't understand is this: DU was an extremely successful, highly-trafficked site for years under the old rules and the Mods system. So why change it, then see it decline - and not immediately figure that the changes made were detrimental, business-wise?
The Mods were not paid - so getting rid of them represented no cost savings. The site thrived under the old rules - so why change the rules that actually grew the site, and replace them with rules that caused the site's traffic to shrink?
FarPoint
(12,409 posts)Life changing events, new challenges....Oh, I do miss the old DU...2002 was my original start.
NanceGreggs
(27,815 posts)... what "growing up" has to do with making changes to DU that have proven to be detrimental to the site's revenue and traffic.
FarPoint
(12,409 posts)It just appears using automation verses " people "...just may simplify things....Less need for being active administrator to resolve disputes..more time then for other ventures...same profit, less energy expended. That's my guess anyway.
NanceGreggs
(27,815 posts)If the site is losing traffic, it's losing revenue - so the profits are not the same.
And changing the TOS was never necessary, and resulted in the influx of RW trolls posing as Dems.
I can understand how the ill-fated "jury system" was at first seen as a time-saver for the Admins. But the Mods handled disputes before, and adjudicated on the basis of enforcing the TOS. Now it's a free-for-all, where NO rules are enforced.
I'll just never understand taking a successful, well-trafficked site and trying to "fix" what was never broken in the first place.
Anyway, the point is moot. DU will never be what it once was.
KittyWampus
(55,894 posts)referee-ing by the Administrators. And there was the problem of Mods who refused to hide anything due to 'free speech issues'.
Bottom line- Administrators don't want to be bothered with volunteer Mods.
NanceGreggs
(27,815 posts)So rather than be "bothered", Skinner decided to let the entire site devolve into a free-for-all where RWers are free to post their bullshit, the vilest personal attacks are allowed to stand, and now BSers run the board.
Good thinkin'.
It will be interesting to see how he handles HRC's nomination and its aftermath. My guess is he will cave to the BSers and continue to allow HRC-bashing, Dem-bashing, RW lies/misinformation, etc. to be posted.
I just wish he'd change the site name. There is nothing Democratic-supporting about DU anymore. The name has become a very unfunny joke.

(32,623 posts)Clear TOS, not just advocating against but organizing against Democrats.
That kind of protest will get more media coverage than anything else that occurs at our convention.

(10,845 posts)I know that's the case! Too many trolls are allowed to run DU
which is why the perpetually outraged threatening to not vote for Hillary is a joke - they weren't going to anyway.
They're getting so boring.

(15,805 posts)Future 45 is run by Brian O. Walsh, a longtime Republican operative who has in the past served as political director for the National Republican Congressional Committee. Most recently, he was president of the American Action Network, a dark money group that was the second-largest outside spender in 2010.
Over the last year, Future 45 has been funded primarily by hedge fund managers. Two billionaire Rubio-backers Paul Singer, who runs Elliott Management, and Ken Griffin, who runs Citadel have each contributed $250,000.

The same group of Republican billionaires has also run ads against Sanders, but amazingly someone in the Bernie group must hate him too because they're willing to give them free bandwidth here on DU. The logic escapes me, but why are they pushing all this heavy duty Republican propaganda to trash talk the top Dem, Hillary Clinton, and getting away with it?
