The worst thread I've ever seen on DU.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/1280182729

I can't imagine anything worse. The Hillary hate is over the top. Then you add in the anecdotal garbage, and the actual admission that some are thinking about voting for Trump . . . Speechless!

I used to like Bernie, but there's no longer a question that he's appealing to the basest of instincts and anger. Anyone who tells you that the Sanders campaign isn't just the other side of the coin as the Trump campaign just needs to look at this thread.

They are lashing out like babies. Once Bernard concedes and lends his voice to the Clinton campaign them they will fall In with the logical masses.

Sanders is giving these Republican trolls cover with his lashing out against Hillary Clinton on his way down.

I knew Republicans fear Hillary Clinton to the extreme, but I never thought I'd see a so-called liberal helping Republicans in attacking a true-blue Dem. NO Democrat in their right mind would rather have a Republican in the White House this election year, not with SCOTUS hanging in the balance and after knowing that Trump would sell the Executive branch, piece by piece, to the highest bidder as is his business m.o. (selling his name for big bucks).

I surely hope Hillary is as intelligent as I know her to be, and picks Julian Castro as her running mate. We'll lose the Anglo-American youth vote to Trump, but gain it twice over with the Hispanic-American vote - and might even win Texas this fall. With the African-American and Hispanic-American vote (and the oft overlooked Asian-American vote), we'll win this fall even if we lose a-political Millennials.

If they want to vote for Trump over the Democratic nominee, then there is no point wasting time with that mindset.

Anyone who proudly announces that they've got stupid relations (using a Scooby Doo reference) who will vote for a racist pig has greater issues than we can ever realize, I suspect.

For many Sanders supportters, the alternative is Trump and always has been. That is where the whole white, male, "bro" appeal comes from. This is not a secret. Sanders said, from the get-go, that he wanted to triangulate (only a bad word when Bill uses it) the voter bloc of WHITE WORKING MALES. He thought if he could capture that demographic, that with a few scraps and bits and hangers-on, he could build a movement. This is not new, either--he's been humping that POV for years:

2014: http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallpolitics/2014/11/19/365024592/sen-bernie-sanders-on-how-democrats-lost-white-voters

2016: http://www.npr.org/2016/03/13/470278253/bernie-sanders-has-strength-among-white-men-pinched-by-the-economy

If employment were higher, his message might resonate. But the unemployment rate isn't that bad, and we know full well that this focus on the white guys doesn't address income inequality with black men and women. The idea that once all the white guys get work, that there will be jobs left over for the females and POC, that shit don't float. Who in their right mind--who isn't a white guy--would find that to be a respectable strategy?

I mean, assuming those aren't just trolls...but honestly, I've seen people in person
espouse the "blow it up to rebuild it" ideology. There's a lot of overlap in the
fringy libertarian/left fauxgressive (because really, Bernie's camp represents
as much regression as it does progression) and anarchists. I know a couple
here at my university, and it's not just the guys (because they always seem
to be male) who say it to sound edgy. These are real zealots for...fuck, I
don't even know what they represent honestly.

(I only read the OP in that thread, but I think I get the idea -- otherwise correct me.)

The frenzy over BS has a LOT to do with "bucking the establishment." It's kind of like adolescent rebellion. Or "we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore" lashing out at any handy "authority figure."

They want a HERO.

Unfortunately, their choice of hero is not related to the REALITY of politics, and thus not about the potential for change or effectiveness. It's about emotion.

It feels GREAT to rail against "The Establishment!" There's PRIDE in feeling persecuted for caring too much about others, and refusing to budge from righteous principles!! Identifying and demonizing an OPPOSITE side that's not pure (= is in the real world) makes for a good/bad binary separation, and creates a scapegoat for releasing all kinds of indignant anger. It may be genuine, but it is misdirected.

In the rightwing, it's much the same. That is how the so-called "leftists" (who really aren't, but like thinking of themselves as such) go around the bend far enough and meet up with the rightwing, especially "libertarians." It's just general adolescent defiance.

So Trump voters could vote for Bernie, and Bernie fans could go for Trump. It's is not surprising to me because -- as my thread yesterday in GDP proved -- it has NOTHING to do with issues. NOTHING to do with facts. NOTHING to do with progress.

Off my soapbox for now!
