Cha
(297,651 posts)from gun violence.. and the most tragic loss of all.. the death of your child.
I can't even begin to understand how painful it would be.. but I know my heart goes out to them and I want sensible gun laws so less and less of us will have to go through it.
Sandy Phillips is amazing in how she understands exactly what Bernie Sanders lacks.. and she reminds him that The Pope condemns gun manufacturers and their bloody lobby.
She tells him to get on the right side of history!
Well done, Sandy Phillips!

(28,270 posts)Big gun manufacturers rest easy as their weapons of mass killing go on taking innocent life every day.
Bernie Sanders is on the job protecting them from lawsuits so their blood money is safe!
Cha
(297,651 posts)his blatant hypocrisy.

Cha
(297,651 posts)her plea to him was heartbreaking. He really blew it when he laughed, when Hillary brought up gun violence.
He has no sense of what is appropriate behavior. He showed the same lack of knowledge with the Pope @ the Vatican. It was all about BS.. others' feelngs and mission weren't even considered.
Thank you, she~

It really puts his support of the gun lobby into stark perspective... what a jerk. He can't face the ugliness of our world, Vermont is pretty tranquil and other-worldly compared to the rest of the US. He obviously doesn't get it.
I also want to point out that while he was "meeting the Pope" Hillary was meeting with real people in public housing, he didn't get around to meeting anyone from that community until yesterday or today. But Hillary is the corrupt one according to Bernie and Jane?
Cha
(297,651 posts)bernie tries to demonize Hillary while setting himself up as the purity candidate.
It was bound to boomerang sooner or later.
today will be very humbling for him.

(24,605 posts)There are too many of those empty chairs...and Bernie laughs??? No.words.
Cha
(297,651 posts)obvious enough or Hillary wouldn't have called him on it and Sandy Phillips wouldn't have been so devastated over it.

(15,445 posts)It always amuses me when BSers try to promote him as the MOST Democrat of Democrats, because he CAUCUSED with the Dems in Congress.
Who the hell else did they think he would caucus with...the bloody Teabaggers?

(685 posts)For whom any gun regulation is a deal breaker. They'd just as soon sit it out.
When he laughed, he was reacting for his base. Clear as day.
I again thank all things holy that I'll never have to cast a vote for the guy ~

(685 posts)why he's chuckling when the topic of gun violence is brought up?
Pandering to his base
Cha
(297,651 posts).. they're talking to their base.
The best base is the Democratic base like Hillary and President Obama talk to us.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)easy in this case for someone who is more interested in economic systems for populations than caring for individuals.
In any case, he's come through for his gun manufacturers donors and protected hunters in Vermont. He could meet with these families and reach some kind of agreement on needed action, but won't.

(112,417 posts)NEW YORK (AP) It wasn't a giant rally with screaming supporters, celebrity friends and a feisty candidate. But the small gathering on behalf of Hillary Clinton in a Brooklyn church still reverberated with emotion.
Sitting in the airy chapel at Mount Ararat Church in Brooklyn, the crowd heard from five women who had lost their children to gun violence or after contact with the police, including the mothers of Trayvon Martin and Eric Garner. One by one, they shared stories of loss and grief and argued Clinton was the candidate best prepared to take on gun violence and reshape the criminal justice system.
"She was the only candidate that reached out to us," said Sybrina Fulton, whose 17-year-old son, Trayvon Martin, was fatally shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer in 2012. "That showed us that our tragedies were important." She said: "It's important that we let our voices be heard and you absolutely can do that at the polls."
More than a dozen of these women have dubbed themselves the "Mothers of the Movement." They met privately with Clinton and each other last year at a Chicago restaurant, pouring out their stories while the Democratic presidential contender took notes. Though Clinton didn't directly ask for endorsements at the time, the women decided to get involved and have campaigned for her in South Carolina, Wisconsin and Ohio. Clinton's campaign pays their travel expenses.

(297,651 posts)a positive force and course of action for these Moms who lost their sons and daughters to gun violence.
I so grateful that Hilary reached out to them.

(2,792 posts)This is a big issue for me, as it was when I supported O'Malley's standing up to the NRA in Maryland.
Sanders' campaign has many second-amendment types among the ranks. I have absolutely no sympathy for their position or arguments.
The NRA helped Sanders defeat a Democratic gun-control candidate in Vermont. He lost my support on that issue alone.
Cha
(297,651 posts)we expect it of rw but not those running in the Dem primary.
berni paints himself so pure but he's the opposite.

(3,825 posts)I hope no one ever has to walk in her shoes, but when BS laughed at the gun remark in that debate, he dishonored himself and the thousands of lives that are lost to gun violence. Thank you Sandy Phillips for your very courageous stand.

(297,651 posts)to gun violence. Her eloquence and bravery need to be seen so more people will want to help get sensible gun laws passed. It's going to take a sea change.
I'm so grateful that Hillary is taking on this fight.
Thank you, Loki~

(12,448 posts)I can't begin to imagine the pain of a mother losing her child to senseless violence. I was angry when I saw Sanders laughing; Sandy Phillips was, obviously, devastated. Sanders says he fights for "the people," but he doesn't care about people.
Thanks so much for posting this, Cha. It's very important.

(10,893 posts)the need for him to drag HC leftward, but at least on this issue, it is he who needs to be pulled leftward.
