Meth valued at $1.5 million found hidden in watermelon load
Customs officers in Pharr found 101 pounds of methamphetamine hidden in a truck full of watermelons, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said Thursday.
The seizure occurred Tuesday at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge. The officers found 76 packages of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $1.5 million dispersed through the shipment.
The truck driver was not arrested, though U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is investigating.
CBP spokesman Phillip Barrera said the driver was a part of a unionized Mexican workforce that drives loads across the border only and has no control over what's in the loads.
