Tufts University to applicants: What does "YOLO" mean to you?

Prospective students applying to Tufts University will have the option of writing an essay about what #YOLO means to them.

The acronym, which stands for “You Only Live Once,” was coined by rapper Drake and has become so much of a pop culture phenomenon among teenagers, that the term is cringe-worthy to many Generation Xers. Tufts’ application reads, “The ancient Romans started it when they coined the phrase “Carpe diem.” Jonathan Larson proclaimed “No day but today!” and most recently, Drake explained You Only Live Once (YOLO). Have you ever seized the day? Lived like there was no tomorrow? Or perhaps you plan to shout YOLO while jumping into something in the future. What does #YOLO mean to you?”

Students did have the option to skip the question altogether and opt for a different one like “what makes you happy,” or “celebrate your nerdy side.”
