For the second time in recorded history, a motorist has been arrested for driving a Zamboni under the influence.
On Monday evening, cops in Apple Valley, Minnesota busted Joel Bruss for suspicion of DWI. Bruss, 34, was collared at the Hayes Arena, where he operated the ice resurfacing vehicle.
Bruss is pictured at right in a mug shot from an earlier arrest.
According to police, cops were summoned to the rink by witnesses who watched as the Zamboni careened across the ice and bounced off the sideboards. When officers arrived, they saw Bruss, a part-time employee, struggling to maneuver the Zamboni off the ice.

(10,437 posts)MN leads the nation in a related metric. It is not the state with the most or least alcohol related fatalities, nor the most lenient or most strict penalties, nor top or bottom in alcohol consumption.
But its cops are the ones, by far, who are the most gung-ho gestapo for the tippler's gulag that is the DUI industry. MN convicts 1.4% of ALL its licensed drivers every single year. That's about twice the average and about 4 times the rate of laggard RI, which is hardly any more knee-deep in the drunk driving dead than is MN. Now certainly there are repeat offenders, but their shock-journo anecdotal prominence belies their fairly small presence in conviction numbers, which are hugely slanted to first time offenders.
