Chesapeake Woman Celebrates 100th Birthday By Rapping At Church
CHESPEAKE—Verna Owen of Chesapeake celebrated Easter Sunday by turning 100 years old.
At her age, she bowls, writes and even raps. “ It's a cruel, cruel world when you stop to think. If you want to survive you got to swim not sink. So we mustn’t stop when we're growing older. We must soldier the burden like a very brave soldier,” Owen rapped.
She stays active. In 2011, Verna was the oldest female to compete in the National Senior Games in Houston, Texas. She picked up two silver medals in the discus and bowling.
