Man arrested for DUI on a Walmart shopping cart

Brooksville man was drunk, driving a shopping cart, police say
By WFLA.com web staff

BROOKSVILLE, FL -
Brooksville Police say they've arrested a man who was driving drunk -- inside a Walmart.

Timothy Carr of Brooksville is facing charges of disorderly intoxication and felony retail theft. Police say Sunday night, just before 9 o'clock, they found Carr inside the Walmart at 7305 Broad Street. Investigators say he was drunk, and driving around the store on a motorized shopping cart. They say he had removed an alcoholic beverage from a shelf, and was drinking it, while knocking other items off the shelves.

"felony retail theft".

I don't know if they could charge him with a DUI. Interesting legal question.

on bicycles and lawn mowers. Granted, its unusual and involves other extenuating circumstances.

Those big riding lawn mowers are very common down here.
I have had 2 clients arrested for DUI and sent into my treatment program for riding the mowers, drunk, on the highway, to the "package" store ( liquor store) for more booze.
Both gentlemen protested their arrests, they felt that since their driver's license had been revoked, they were being legally creative by using the lawn mowers.
In the first case, the arresting officer pointed out that since it was at night, and the mower had no lights,
and the drunk driver had neglected to raise the mower blade as he rode down the center line....
in the 2nd incidence, the drunk had driven on the side of the road.

True stories.

the other one was here in Alabama.

The small town I live in now voted, about 9-10 years ago, to go "wet" ( allowing booze to be sold)
There are people here who are STILL mad as hell about that vote.
I figure it does cut down on lawn mower drives.
