18 Secrets of UPS Drivers

You may have a good relationship with your UPS driver, but how much do you really know about his or her job? The brown-clad United Parcel Service workers deliver more than 15 million packages a day to more than 220 countries and territories around the world; they even deliver to the North Pole. But what’s it really like to be a UPS driver? Here are some little-known facts from drivers who did their time.

Who had the route for about 20 years.

He had a special deal with UPS - he ended his route out here on our rural road since he lived about 1/2 mile from the other end of it. Sometimes, my delivery was the last of his day and he had time to talk a little bit. He knew every house on his route and took pride in giving great personal service for every single delivery.

Since he retired UPS delivery is a crap shoot. I've had boxes left on the street, leaning against the mailbox, boxes left IN the mailbox, boxes left leaning against the hinge side of the gate post (took me two weeks to find that one and since it had been rained on several times, the hard drive inside was dead), and boxes left at every other building on the farm (storage building and two barns) both inside and out of each. The more recent drivers have also told me my address doesn't exist or determined it was two miles down the road.
