"He is a great actor, and an even better director," the president said in an interview with USA TODAY aboard Air Force One, on his way to campaign rallies in Iowa Saturday. "I think the last few movies that he's made have been terrific."

Was he offended?
"One thing about being president or running for president if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession." Obama said with a smile. He said there would be no effort to counter with a similar stunt at the Democratic National Convention, which opens in Charlotte Tuesday.
"I think we'll be playing this pretty straight," he said

(19,326 posts)yet in doing so,
I still grieve and sorely morn,
for the those yesterdays,
when our dreams,
for the future of our nation,
were so much more humane,
so much more grounded,
in compassionate action,
on behalf of "the least of these".

(5,103 posts)One great bit doesn't mean they all will be. It's easy when talking about Detroit's comeback, not so much when the message is lies and innuendo.
I have yet to see ANY actor deliver the Republican message in a believeable, TRUTHFUL, manner.
I don't think it can be done.

(297,621 posts)Ad, Half Time In America, and this is what I came up with..
snip..
We had to write it together with him, Olivier Francois, Chryslers marketing chief, said in an interview at the Chicago Auto Show yesterday.
Clearly, he felt like endorsing the message because the message is clearly not sales-oriented, Francois said. It is even hardly corporation-oriented. Its about values.

You're so absolutely right, SCVDEM.. So much smoother talkng about Detroit's comeback as opposed to Lies coming from Pres Obama in an Empty Chair.
snip..
"David Axelrod loved it. Karl Rove hated it . The entire political class was tweeting about it. But was Clint Eastwoods Halftime in America ad for Chrysler actually a pro-Obama message? In his gravelly Dirty Harry whisper, the star expouded upon how people are out of work and theyre hurting. . . wondering what theyre gonna do to make a comeback. And how we all pulled together and now Motor City is fighting again.
Praise for the auto bailout? Our colleague Emily Heil asked top political message-makers for their read.
The best Obama-Biden ad of the season, said Democratic admaker Joe Slade White. Its about strength, and comebacks and coming together.
Another Democrat, J.B. Poersch of SKDK Knickerbocker, saw a more subtle political angle: Its very hard to separate [the president] from GM and Chryslers successes, he said." More..

(17,276 posts)My conservative brother thinks it was a flop. I think the whole convention has been one.
I said that Paul Ryan is making Romney look even more boring. And he agreed, and said that it was the same with McCain and Sarah Palin. She was interesting, McCain was dull. I guess it is a new GOP template.
Anyway, we know how that one turned out!

(290 posts)Voters should take note that President Obama has far more class and civility than Romney or Ryan could ever have. I'm glad he's not going to follow with a "stunt" to counter the RNC. I don't think that the voters are looking for that and I think it will emphasize what idiots the speakers and attendees are

(45,358 posts)But he does, every time. He's an amazing person.
President Obama has had to be the Jackie Robinson of Presidents. He has held his head high while so many have denigrated his service to this country, his love of this country, his family, his beliefs, and so much more. Not a day goes by when he's not called names I can't even type for the hatred they exude -- but he must listen to them, smile, and continue to work for these very people who hate him. He faces death threats every day, yet he wades into crowds, stands on risers, and faces America with a smile and everything he's got.
He's not perfect by any stretch, and I'm voting for him because he is a role model for all of us, young and old. To stand up and care for all.
Equality -- everybody gets it.

(16,254 posts)It will (once more) show who the adults are in the room. Obama has a way of playing tricks with a straight face, so it will be interesting to watch him drive the RWrs crazy.
They SO want him to fail or, at the very least, get angry. When he doesn't, they are thrown off center. That is so much fun to watch.
I love our POTUS, VPOTUS and their ladies!
