In honor of Sheriff Obama I watched Blazing Saddles again last night

God, I love that movie. I do not know how on earth Cleavon Little managed to keep a straight face as long as he did while Gene Wilder was winding up his analysis of the townspeople: "Simple farmers, people of the land, the common clay... You know: morons." He might as well have been saying, "You know: Republican Congresscritters." As the Teutonic Titwillow would say, "It's twue, it's twue."

Pryor was good -- but you know, Cleavon Little was genius in this. I got a huge crush on him, and kept waiting for more movies. I only found out about his extremely untimely death a little while ago... I'm glad we have Blazing Saddles to remember him by.

5. In my personal list of greatest movies,

Blazing Saddles ranks right up toward the top. Very few if any other comedies do. But I love Mel Brooks, so High Anxiety is high too. The first time I ever saw it in a theatre, I was one of the few people laughing hysterically all the way through, so I know the other people weren't Hitchcock fans or they'd have understood the humor. Maybe.

Most of my favorite movies are dramas and documentaries with a decidedly liberal political bent.
