The House Republicans’ Ghoulish Defunding Rally

There was something ghoulish about the rally that House Republicans held today in the Rayburn Room after they voted to defund health care reform. The party atmosphere was so boisterous, the cheers and laughter so loud, that it was easy to forget everyone in the room had just voted to keep tens of millions of people from getting health insurance.

By keeping spending at its current levels through mid-December, they had also voted to continue the sequester, which is preventing millions of people from getting public housing subsidies, Head Start seats, and unemployment benefits.
The sequester is also taking a serious toll on scientific research and investment in infrastructure, not to mention its infuriating drag on employment and the economic recovery. How about another round of applause?

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, of course, from a House that had voted the previous day to cut food stamps for 3.8 million low-income people, including many very young and very old recipients. But at least they didn’t have a party to celebrate that vote.

Today, though, everyone was in a great mood.

“When we acted, it wasn’t just a group of Republicans, but it was a bipartisan vote,” said Kevin McCarthy, the Majority Whip. (O.K., fine. Two Democrats voted for it, and 188 voted against.) “Let me state that again because I want to make sure you write it correctly. [Huge laughter.] It was a bipartisan vote because we’re Americans first! [Cheers, applause.]”

I can't tell you loudly or strongly enough, how their joking, dismissive attitude offends me.

“Let me state that again because I want to make sure you write it correctly. [Huge laughter.] It was a bipartisan vote because we’re Americans first! [Cheers, applause.]”

You are Americans first!? Seriously? Your America? I want no part of that. You are elected officials to this nation, yet you laugh and slap yourselves on the back as you try to deny Americans a way to affordable health care. You! All of you that have a Cadillac Health Plan, paid for by the very people you wish to deny benefits. You have yours so screw the people! Yea, you are so American!

You vote to de-fund food stamp benefits to those suffering from hunger. The very people that you placed in this position from you ill gotten wars that you placed on a credit card. Who crashed the economy? That would be you guys, your policies and that of you beloved President Bush. Who are the real takers? That would be you.

You built this and you damn well own it. You have become an festering boil on the ass of this country.
May God forgive you, because I never will.

but I know these people. They're utterly terrified of admitting being wrong about anything. Will they vote against these bastards and lie about it later? I have no idea. Some probably will. I just don't know if enough will.

Jim Matheson of Utah and Mike McIntyre of North Carolina.. who'd rather go down in history NOT standing up for the people's Health Care.. than lose their jobs to the brainwashed teabag mentality of their Districts. Who knows they might enjoy paying less for Health Care?

Thanks for the OP, she..

They party and they prance, they give themselves high fives and celebrate on the backs of Americans.

The GOP sucks the life out of this country. Matheson and McIntyre are no exception. Let them go down! Every single one of them!

Will find a way to appease them and bail their sorry asses out of the jam that they are in. And it won't be the first time that he has done that, nor the last.

Mr. President, prove me wrong. Stand up for America instead of big business and Wall Street for a change. Don't screw over those of us who elected you, yet again. It has become tiresome.

Guess what, you are posting in The Barack Obama Group.

Your comments about our President are not welcome here. We are a group not a forum, you are not exactly new here, so you should know that.

Please delete your post, if you do not then you will be banned from further posts in this group.

You are more than welcome to post about how spineless our President is in GD. Though I have to say you are rather lacking in facts.

90% of all Republicans in Congress are Racists who hate our President. They have used the Filibuster in the Senate and just pure hate numbers in the House to prevent hum from passing any kind of Progressive Legislation. I am amazed that he has accomplished what he has...

You are the one who is tiresome...And the fact that Obama has played things from the middle shows how intuitive he is. He ain’t Roosevelt and he ain’t someone who was gonna try to get thing done by declaring war on the right wing slime.. He is doing it the right way..Inch by Inch.. So go post your opinions on Red State. They will appreciate you more..

One last thing.. Don’t forget the lousy blue dog democrats he has had to deal with..

you did not. Take it elsewhere.

The BOG does not appreciate your comments.

Try understanding that our President has stood for Gay Rights, Women's Rights, Voting Rights. He ended the war in Iraq. He stands with Veterans. He has given us ACA. He brought us from the brink of financial collapse. Bush destroyed our economy, he brought this country to it knees. This President reversed that.

Get your facts straight. Facts are your friend.

the middle class is deteriorating. Why do they still believe in trickle down economics of printing money and giving it to the big banks? Stocks & big houses are rocketing up while jobs are not. The poor have medicaid & food stamps and phones, what does the middle class have?

House Republicans reeked of alcohol as they walked off the floor according to press members who were there. This took place during late-night debates while they inched the country closer to the looming government shutdown.

The Daily Mail reports, “Members of the political press corps made the claims from Capitol Hill on Saturday night. Politico reporter Ginger Gibson tweeted: ‘I’m not over exaggerating when I say I can smell the booze wafting from members as they walk off the floor.’

What this means, they were getting shitfaced drunk while we were all biting our nails and scrounging through the Internet in an effort to find out how a government shutdown would affect us and others.

And there you have it, the true character of a Republican. Any questions?

And as much as they depress the hell out of me, I remain hopeful. No wait, more than hopeful. I truly believe that we are on an entirely new course. People are standing up, I know they are.

I have said before that there is a ground swell out there. I felt it during Obama's first election. I can feel it and others do too. We are a force and damn we are rising.

Just take a look...Wendy Davis running for Governor of Texas! They are going purple and blue is following close behind!

To us freshwest, to all of us!
