Grassley running for re-election might be good.

If Republican regain control of the US Senate next year and Grassley has to resign, Mitch McConnell become President Pro Tempore of the US Senate.

He might, if he can assure his grandson is appointed to his seat, but that’s not a guarantee, and there’s nothing to force him.

Nor can I see why McConnell would want to be President Pro Temp. He wants power, and PpT has none.
