Manage Add On box in IE 10

Last edited Fri Oct 11, 2013, 11:18 AM - Edit history (1)

All I see are a couple of columns with 1/8 inch showing. The windows to shows contents don't open up to see anything. At the bottom where it should show, I can barely see the top of the letters but I can't read them. They move with a mouse wheel but nothing else.

I've right clicked on them and it didn't help. Help!

Thank you in advance

ETA: It's working now! It updated on its' own. Unfortunately, it erased my toolbar, defaulted back to MSN, etc.

Thank you for your answers

Sharon

But is it just that your window is too small? You should be able to mouse over a corner, say the one by the close button, until a double sided arrow appears and then drag the window out further to enlarge it.

That wouldn't explain this, "The windows to shows contents don't open up to see anything." but it should help figure out if it is a display problem or just a cramped window.

With the manage addon window open hit printscreen button. Then open Paint and paste the screen capture. Then choose to save it but use the dropdown box to change from bitmap to jpeg format. You can upload it to imgur.com and provide a link to the image.

Or maybe downloading and reinstalling IE10 would remedy the situation. If you have already reset it then I can't think of what else to try other than a reinstall--which is usually what I try if a program stops working. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/ie-10-worldwide-languages

I'll take a look around tomorrow to see if I can find anything relevant. A quick look around just suggest reset and I haven't found a verified solution. Which OS are you running. Is there a particular reason you need to manage your addons?

There was: I was trying to turn off the tracking protection for a couple of websites, and it wasn't working in the tab. Oddly it would turn off other sites.
Let me get a screen shot and I'll add it.

Thank you!

I can't duplicate the problem and can't find any pictures of someone else in the same situation. I'm guessing the information about the addons is working correctly but it is a display problem, but there seems no way to manually change the size of the preview pane.

I'll spend a bit more time tonight to see if I can find something of value.

They are very knowledgeable. http://www.eightforums.com/browsers-mail/32578-weird-display-problem-ie10-manage-addons-window.html

I would suggest signing up and pursuing a solution over there. Please verify that increasing the size of the window does not increase the size of the list of addons so that they can move on and consider other possibilities.

I will still try to find a thread where someone has the exact problem you describe and is pictured in your screenshot.

You may want to backup your Favorites before doing anything else. In IE go to the File menu and select Import and Export. Choose to Export and follow the screens to create a bookmarks file.

Mockmonkey mentioned that there are two versions of IE in Win8 (I'm running Win7 and only used win8 for a week or two). Perhaps you are using a mobile type version of IE causing the problem. I'm not sure where the desktop version is found.

Then I think I would try the turning IE off then restarting then turning it back on and restarting. It keeps many settings but it may initialize some of the components. Control Panel>Programs and Features>hit the link for Turn Windows programs on/off. Then untick the box for IE10 and Apply. Restart. Turn it back on and restart. See if any difference.

Lastly, when you did the IE reset did you tick the box to remove personal settings/information. If not that may be an option. You would have your bookmarks/favorites backed up and could import them back later. It is up to you if you would also want to backup your history etc. before doing an IE reset. I'm only talking about an IE reset not a PC reset/refresh.

This might explain it better.

http://www.thewindowsclub.com/difference-internet-explorer-10-metro-desktop

or this:

At the Start screen, clicking on the Tile for IE gives you the Metro version which is a stripped down version of IE.

At the Start screen if you click on the Desktop Tile you will find the familiar screen of earlier versions of Windows (sans the Start button) and the IE icon is down on the bottom left side of the Tool bar which gives you the regular version of IE.

Does the problem come up no matter if you start IE10 on either the IE10 button on the toolbar or if you use the Desktop icon to open IE10? There are two IEs I don't know if only one of them can be corrupt or not.

You're not having any other issues with the computer other than the Manage Add-on screen?

When you say you reset everything you mean you went to this site to learn how to and did reset IE10?

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/reset-ie-settings#ie=ie-10

I noticed in the reset for IE they tell you in #2 to open IE for the Desktop (which is from the bottom icon on the toolbar)

Have you tried safe mode with networking to see if it still has the same issue?

Wanted to add that according to Microsoft if your Win8 came with IE 10 already installed on it you can not uninstall it. You can disable it if you want.
