Random observation: Firefox plays Youtube videos better than Chrome

The system I'm using at the moment is marginal for video, integrated graphics aren't that good, Chrome plays Youtube videos like in jerky slow motion at full screen (1080P monitor), the same videos look smooth and good in Firefox.

I tried Opera too, it's better than Chrome but not as smooth as Firefox at full screen video.

That just saved me hunting down another computer or some more parts, I like to watch videos full screen and now my computer does it.

Over time the issues have been getting lesser and lesser, but they are still there. One big problem is the screen goes white when a flash video is loading, especially on tab computers.

..which generally delivers content faster than other browsers. it also sandboxes content, making it the most secure browser out-of-the-box (firefox can be vamped). hence chrome demands WAY more resources from your machine than other browsers. chromium used to crash my linux box occasionally until i upped my RAM to 4gb. only program that has ever done that.

so i wouldn't be surprised if, on a slightly older machine, these factors would actually reduce the quality of some content rendering in chrome, where on a different machine, it would actually be better than firefox.

Your generic two or three tech generation old hand me down computer.

As I said, it's marginal for video since it doesn't have a dedicated graphics card. I was actually kind of mildly surprised it worked full screen at 1080P.

I'll find the right deal eventually to get a better box but I figured there's some other people maybe having to make do with older stuff that might also be marginal.

hm short of RAM/HDD upgrade like you said not much you can do. install linux maybe.. best way i've found to get old machines up to full functionality. can even save powerpc's (g4 etc) that way (open suse or the powerpc project a fork of mint, actually). basically what happens is commercial operating systems stop supporting older hardware so the latest versions of programs, especially web-based apps like flash, browsers, etc. all stop working eventually. linux is different in that you can still run the latest versions of most stuff on long-term-support (LTS) kernels of various distributions. i like arch's LTS kernel myself i have it running in a virtual machine on my iMac so i can use an old version of Xilinx software to program my FPGA.
