PC won't connect to internet
My desk top computer was working fine and then we had some internet issues. Now, it won't connect at all.
I didn't really have anything on it, so I reset to manufacturers specs and still having the same issue.
It is an ACER Aspire X3200 running Vista.

Did you re-boot? (the modem first, then the computer).
next (snagged from the internets..) "Go to Control Panel/Network and Internet/Internet Options and click on the Connections tab and go down to LAN Settings, make sure that "Automatically Detect Settings" is checked. While in Network and Internet click on Network and Sharing Center, now on the left click on Change Adapter Settings and make certain that your connection is enabled."

(12,958 posts)Shut off cable modem, or DSL modem, router and PC. Take the battery out of the cable or DSL modem. Wait a minute. Put battery back in. Restart modem waiting until it is fully back up. Plug router back in and wait til it fully boots up. Turn computer back on.
This generally works given your internet connection is good.
If that doesn't work, restart the PC tapping F8 as it restarts.
On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.
If it is caused by a corruption, this usually fixes it.
Good luck!

(3,655 posts)Are you hard wired via a network cable or connecting by wireless?
Right click on my computer and select properties and then select device manager. In device manager, are there any items with a red or yellow error icon? If you are connecting by wireless, the wireless adapter may have failed or need to be reseated in its slot.
Check those items and post results

(3,655 posts)They can be had for under $20. Do you have a Microcenter nearby?
I have a Zonet adapter similar to this one.

This one is nice because you can put it in it's stand and move it around for best reception or take the stick out of the stand and plug it directly into the laptop. This one has the added feature of being able to turn into a hotspot and allow other computers to connect to yours. They are nice to have around for troubleshooting.
Laptops usually run the antenna around the screen. The antenna wire may be broken in the hinge area

(3,655 posts)make sure you install the software that comes with it. Windows may install the driver automatically but for full functionality use the included software(or download the latest from the companies web site).
