Help! Clueless husband.

Well, I finally broke down and got us smartphones - if I don't text, I rarely get to "talk" to my daughter and grandson. She even said emailing was out, forget actually talking on the phone! So I finally decided that if I want to know what's going on with them, I would have to cave.

My husband has never even used a computer (refuses to learn) so I'm trying to teach him his shiny new iPhone. So far he's gotten into YouTube and IHeartRadio - btw, it's a super cool free app. I'm working on getting him to use the iPad since it's pretty much like a big iPhone without the phone part, but it's incredibly frustrating!

Any suggestions how to nudge him along would be appreciated. He's just one of those people that can't stand change.

1. If he likes the apps on the phone,

he will eventually start using apps on the iPad. Things will progress from there. No need to rush things.

One thing that might help nudge him would be for the daughter to send him text messages (but not a flood of them).

2. Shazam "listens" to a song and tells you the name and artist (and a method to buy it instantly, of

course!) Very cool app. And he might like MPG Tracker which calculate your gas mileage for you. Waze is fun while driving--let's you know how the traffic is and why it's slow. And try Fatify for a good laugh.

There are probably dozens of great apps that I'm not familiar with. If he likes to read, there's a great Kindle app (free.) It's wonderful to be able to adjust the font size and read in the dark. Plus, you can read the same book on either device and it remembers where you left off at each one.

He'll gradually come around, I bet. You may want to check out cNet occasionally for their app recommendations and suggest apps to him that you think might pique his interest.
