Laptop not seeing SSD using adapter

I just received my SSD and I want to copy the Win7 OS over, so I hooked it up to my Dell Inspiron M5010 using my USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE adapter, and it does not show up.

The adapter is a few years old, so I'm wondering is maybe the adapter is the problem or if it might be something else.

It is a Samsung 830 Series SSD and comes with "Samsung Magician" software, and that software says the SSD drive is not found. Partitian Wizard also does not see the device.

I read in the manual that the bios needs to be set to ACHI and it is. There are other BIOS settings. I'm still going to click around but was wondering if anyone knows exactly what the problem might be.

Check Computer - manage - storage - disk management and see if the device is recognized.
