32 bit browser versus 64 bit browser ?

Hi all,

A trivial question here: Why would someone need a 64 bit browser ? Yes, I use a 64 bit operating system but the 32 bit browser works just fine and does not consume a lot of memory.

The reason I ask is, I do beta testing for Opera. They always ask 32 bit vs. 64 bit. I guess I could use the 64 bit and see what happens. Thanks for your time.

eta: Now trying out 64 bit Opera. No flames yet

Some of it has to do with the available plug-ins. ManiacJoe Aug 2012 #2

Windows XP was 32-bit (Home Edition, at least). I'm pretty sure later OS's are all 64 bit. Eventually, they'll stop asking because everyone will be using 64-bit OS's.

Most plug-ins are 32-bit and thus require a 32-bit browser.
