tablet to replace laptop?

My 6 yr old faithful laptop has finally kicked the cyber bucket. Since now i only need a computer for the web, to play simple games at times and to chat, would a tablet be able to replace a lop top? I need to use word processor and only occasionally a simple version of excel. Any advice please from you nice people?

I would just get another laptop which is much easier for word processing and excel. PoliticAverse Jun 2012 #1

Go with a laptop. Cheaper and has a keyboard. Tablets aren't even close to "there" yet. HopeHoops Jul 2012 #4

The touchscreen keyboard is a major PITA. Any typing longer than a short text message becomes difficult-especially if you have to use symbols, numbers, or switch between upper and lower case.
I use mine as a book reader more than anything else.
