Windows 10 update nightmare Part Duex.

Ever since the Windows 10 update I have gotten a "low disk space" message for Drive D, which is a partition from Acer that has recovery files. It was transferred to the solid state hard drive I had to have put in when the original failed. It never showed up as a drive before the long update last week. Hours of trying to deal with Microsoft finally resulted in a call today (three hours late) wherein I was told my laptop was "not compatible" with Windows 10 and I needed a new motherboard. I have been running Windows 10 on this laptop since 2015. I think what I was told is Indian technical support language for, "Fuck you, we don't know how to fix it. Buy a new laptop."

One thing I did discover is, in addition to the damn message, Windows puts an icon in the hidden icons in the system tray, when I click on it, I'm told I can free zero bytes of disk space by doing something. I tell it to go ahead, do that and don't get the warning again until I reboot after shutting down.

I am trying to figure out how to make the D: partition bigger and have downloaded Minitool Partition Wizard. The technical support guy at Microsoft said making the partition bigger might work. I am tempted to just delete the partition. Any words of warning? Should I just put up with the problem? Any advice other than "replace the motherboard" or "buy a new laptop" would be appreciated.


ON EDIT- I just did something that is supposed to turn the warning off. So far, so good. If it worked I will post a link to the instructions tomorrow. I dove far deeper into the laptop than I am comfortable with. Fingers crossed.

old school laptop has been in for repair since the first attempt to upgrade. Mr. Gates, you can do better.

2. I have three Windows 7 machines

None will be upgraded. My last computer purchase was a Chrome book. That is what I think of Microsoft.

3. You can delete the foreign languare support files in that recovery partition.

4. Ah, but I am a polyglot (couldn't resist). I don't see any language files.

Explorer says the D: drive is empty and I can't drill down with the partition software past the three folders in WindowsRE.

5. The free version of the software doesn't do anything. It is $39 for the version that does things.

So there's that. I am going to explore turning off the warning in Windows.
