Kindle Fire/Amazon/eBay

What's the deal?

eBay keeps threatening my app will stop working. It's version 2.something and is the highest version in the Kindle app store. eBay wants 5 and above, and gives me a download link, but I'd prefer to go through the Kindle app store.

I've not queried eBay (yet), but when I queried Amazon they a) said it was eBay's fault and b) handed me five bucks. Weird.

Anybody know the background of what looks like a feud going on here?

But there's virtually zip in the news or on discussion boards. And Amazon's reaction when I complained was really strange.

Been going on for years now.

The war between Amazon and Google and other retailers like ebay is real.

But this particular episode, especially Amazon handing me hush money, has me curious for details.

Not to mention that I want my eBay app, even on the Amazon purchasing device. I don't like straight Android tablets - I like my Amazon purchasing device.

Then enable installs from outside sources. After that you can install apps from anywhere you like.

eBay finally did stop working, after months of threats. Then it offered me an update, and it did install OK. Old version still in Kindle store.

As I said, I would like to be a fly on quite a few walls.

I have an older Kindle that doesn't work. It needs updated software and I don't have wifi. I also don't want my computer to have wifi.

I can get it fixed if I call tech support (maybe) but I don't feel I should need to. There ought to be a file I can easily download.

I did download a program so I can read Kindle books on my computer, but I much prefer using the Kindle (or a book) for long stretches of reading.

I still have three functional Kindle Keyboards. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
