Screensaver will not activate on Windows 7 Pro

Last edited Thu Apr 19, 2012, 12:30 PM - Edit history (1)

Even after setting it to come on after a minute. I've disabled all media players. Could it be avast or zone alarm? What else could it be? I usually just turn the monitor off when I plan to be away from the PC for an extended period.

right-click the Desktop, select Personalize.
In the windows' bottom right, click Screen Saver
In the Screen Saver Settings window, click the Preview button...

Does the screen saver start? If not, it may be that the .scr file may have moved or has been deleted.
Have you tried a screen saver that ships with windows...like Blank... does that work?

I finally build my SO a new system short time ago and the monitor would not go to sleep, drove me crazy. I tried every thing. I came across in some forum someone else had a wireless mouse and screen did not want to go off, and I thought hmmmm...

I plugged in a USB mouse/keyboard and problem solved (most of the time). I say most of the time because if I walk away from the PC with Firefox open watching YouTube it doesn't sleep. Close YouTube and it sleeps correctly.

The whole time I was trying to figure this out I kept thinking of Win 98 SE, and Win XP Pro . I had the same problem on them, just never thought about the "wireless" being the problem.

BTW: I am still using my his Windows Xp Pro with the Microsoft Wireless mouse (With the current software/drivers installed), but I turn off the monitor whenever I get up.
