Anti virus protection

Do smartphones really need them?
Any decent freeware if they do?
I've tried a few but they seem to slow my phone down.

You never know what the hackers will come up with next.

Most androids come with lookout security already installed you might check and see if it is already there. I don't notice any impact from it on any of my phones.
