zapping
All of a sudden there seems to be abundant static electricity in the air. Three times today I've managed to zap my computer, necessitating restart.
Any suggestions for some kind of "lightning rod" to keep that from happening?
Thanks!

(43,049 posts)if it's really dry, just walking across a rug can give you a pretty good charge. Even shifting around in a chair has been known to charge you up under the right, but rare, conditions.
Other than that, should you amass a charge somehow have a grounding gadget nearby the desk. Often it's simply a large chunk of metal, maybe even a desk or file cabinet, that you zap before you touch the computer.

(1,937 posts)have you checked the ground of the outlet you are using?
if that fails
then try a separate ground (i sanded down a radiator and used a pipe clamp+copper cable)
