What do you think of Windows 10? I keep getting these messages to do a free update.
I haven't yet.
I'm happy with Windows 7, but I just read on this forum that in November 2016 Windows 7 will be discontinued.

(2,805 posts)Because the nag has gotten more intrusive. Used to be a little icon in the corner but got to be an open window every time you turn on the computer.
If you need instructions I can give them.

(16,423 posts)I have lots of old computer-games. They used to run on Win XP, run somewhat okay on Win 7 and I didn't test them on Win 8. Then came Win 10 and so far NOTHING works.
And my complaint isn't just about old games. I use Win 7 and lots of old and specialized software at my workplace. THANK FUCK we haven't upgraded yet. My whole department would be unable to get 90% of our work done without this software. If we upgrade to Win 10, there's a very good chance we would have to shut down completely until we get our PCs "repaired" from Win 10 back to something that works.
Verdict:
If you wouldn't mind that programs from the Win98, Win2000, WinME, WinXP eras no longer work, feel free to upgrade to Win 10. I haven't tested something from the Win95 and Win 7 eras so far.
Rant:
FUCKING FUCKTARDS AT FUCKING MICROSOFT FORCING A FUCKING DEFECTIVE PRODUCT ON THEIR FUCKING CUSTOMERS.

(2,805 posts)It added things like the recycle bin and a few other features to Win98. Wasn't perfect but it was setting the ground for XP. The crime was not giving a discount to those that tried ME when they were upgrading to XP (6 months later).

(10,136 posts)everyone I have talk to says the same thing:
If you are on win8, you will probably like the upgrade.
If you are on win7, you don't really have any need to upgrade.
If you choose to upgrade, you first need to do a hardware check to make sure your computer and all its accessories will work with win10.
You will also want to verify that the software you use is compatible with win10.

And there hasn't been a version of Windoze yet that didn't work better with a little tweaking and M$ is doing everything it can to keep you from doing that.

(3,273 posts)I agree with others on the internet, wait 6 months after it comes out and after a bunch of updates or after Win 10-SP1.
My system is new 2014 and Win10 did not see motherboards network.
Asus Sabertooth 990FX works great with Win7, as well with Win8.. I like 7 better.
God thing is if you install Win 10 it gives you 30 days to try it out..... I gave it 5 minutes!

(1,005 posts)I'm ALL in! All my systems at home and work have been migrated to Windows 10, and I just got a Lumia 950XL phone with Windows 10 Mobile. They're running just great, and I LOVE Universal Apps! Looking for a Phone dock, so I can start using Continuum on my phone.
One of the best things I've done in computing in the last 20 years!
