wicainventory. exe causes high CPU usage

More Microsoft crap.
When logging on to my Win7 Pro computer, the hard drive was going like mad. Even though the CPU was only going from 4 to 10%, my computer was really sluggish because it could not access the hard drive.
Previously I have had to hide update KB3035583 twice. MS had un-hid it.
This time the culprit was KB2952664. They are related. The link has the instructions that should take care of this problem.
Make sure your update settings are set to notify you, but not install any updates.
If KB3035583 or KB2952664 are in the listing to be installed, hide them. - Right click > Hide
I had to un-install KB2952664.
I haven't gone through and deleted the 5 known instances of this and related files yet. If it comes back, I will do that.


Why does MS do this? I have already opted out of the upgrade. I should not be seeing these updates.
I copied and pasted the pertinent information to Notepad and printed them out for future reference. Plus save the text file so I can update it as necessary. And bookmarked the site

After an extensive Web search, I discovered that Wicainventory is installed as part of the "Recommended" Win7 update KB2952664

Microsoft's Knowledge Base article for that update lists the files involved but does not say what it does, other than it is a "Compatibility update for upgrading Windows 7"

Some of its files are dated mid-April, 2014, and it was installed on my system in late April.

Of course, many of us are not in the least interested in upgrading Windows 7 to any currently offered alternative.

Uninstalling it from my system did not require a reboot, but supposedly it'll be offered every time updates are available.

I'm not sure they would cause me trouble but both these updates were on my list. I haven't updated for a few weeks. Kb~583 was already unticked in my update list so I don't know if I had seen other warnings or if this is automatic but appreciate the warning about kb~664 too.

I can do without for now. Thanks again.
