M$ no longer lets you download Windows 7 .iso files.

They took all of them down from their download site.
I have them all, Home Premium 32&64, Professional 32&64, Ultimate 32&64.
They will install on any PC as long as you have a valid product key.

Same thing with Office. I guess they want you to buy the new version instead of reinstalling the old one on your old computer after a crash.

Greedy bastards.

P.S. If anyone needs an install disk, PM me.

People see no reason to shell out bucks for a new OS if the old one works just fine.
And not everything about 10 makes me happy.

3. If you have software and they have keys you should be OK.

I don't think anything about anything makes any of us completely happy. Windows 7 was great. But eventually it's time to move on...

11. Because all of the other operating systems don't offer new versions?

Sometimes new functionality is developed, new network or security protocols that can't be added to the existing software without major changes.

Also Microsoft is offering a free upgrade to anybody who has a Windows 7 or 8 license. Yes, if you are still on XP or Vista, you have to pay, but it's hardly an evil cash grab.

In just a very few years...I will stay with 7 as long as I can. I think I have used every version since 95...hated to leave each one except ME.

4. You only need 1 ea of 32 bit & 64 bit...

If you remove ei.cfg file in \sources folder of ISO Windoze gives you the option to install all editions... of course you still need a valid retail key & also will phone activate with a valid OEM_COA key on the puter it came with.

Yeah, M$ removed the Digital River d/l's early this year... they're all-in pushing Win 10.
I have 7 in both 32 & 64 in ISO & DVD form.

I didn't realize they were gone. Good to know.

I have a feeling that there is something built into Win10 that will give MS some type of control. Whether it will eventually be some sort of cloud OS that you pay a subscription for or what I am not sure. But they definitely want EVERYONE to switch (I can't say upgrade with a straight face).

but I don't understand the implications of that. I have Win7 Pro, 64 bit...have had it just over a year. I had it built for me, have the installation cd from my tech.

What troubles should I foresee without the .iso files?

8. .iso lets you create the actual Windows install disk.

Lot of people don't have one since they quit supplying them with the new computer and if you didn't make the rescue disk when you got it, you might be SOL.

9. For instance I had to get a Windows 7 DVD from a friend

My husband's laptop is messed up and I needed to do a clean installation of Windows. But the recovery partition that would have let us revert to the factory original condition was corrupt and my husband never did make the recommended set of recovery disks. Since we have the Windows key, all I needed was the installation disk.

I couldn't use the version for my computer - mine is Windows 7 Pro while my husband's is Home Basic. If I'd had the ISO I could have made the DVD myself, but I didn't have either and had to get it from my friend.

10. Having the same prob with Office 2003

I have a legitimate copy but it will not even register. Which means i have to 'reinstall it every 20 uses which is ridiculous (and greedy of MS).

Sorry but I am low income and I do not have the $$ or need anything else, I just use it mostly for a word processor for my advocacy work. To be honest Open office is buggy and often will not 'talk' to the more recent Office docs sent to me either.

IMO if you have a legit copy you paid for, you should be able to at least register it fer cryin' out loud!

My 2 cents ...

I'm still debating whether I want to let Windows 10 monkey around with my computer the way Micro$oft gremlins tend to do. Part of me wants to at least try it, because I know I will be forced to give up Windows 7 at some point. If I can make it work like Windows 7 and look like Windows 7 and keep all my programs that work on Windows 7, I'll like it. If not, I'll be nostalgic from day one and want Windows 7 back after a few days of trying to force myself to like change. I'm not good with change when what I had was already working fine. I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I used Netscape until I absolutely had to give it up. I've only used FF and some of the other newer browsers for a couple years now, but I use Foxscape to make it look like Netscape. If I could make Pale Moon look like Netscape 3.0 Gold with today's functionality, I would go for it in a heartbeat.

Then again, 10 might have nifty stuff I can enjoy. I'm not sure. I signed up to at least reserve a copy of 10, because it is free and I don't want to have to buy it when they pry 7 out of my cold dead hands. I'm extremely worried how this will turn out though. I ordered a new external hard drive large enough to make an iso of my entire system before 10 starts doing things under the hood. I hope I do it right so that I can restore it back if 10 just gets on my last nerve or something.

Does anyone know if it will be like 8 where you can make it look like 7 (back to the regular old desktop)? I have no cuticles left from my nervous habit of chewing them. And zOMG, all the hardware drivers I will have to go look up and install. I dread that more than anything. I wish they would just make it painless at least, and make it look like what you had if you want to.

14. If you have a volume license agreement with M$ you can still download them.

In fact, you can download Windows XP, Server 2003, Office 2003.

The downside, is they cannot be shared as per the license agreement. Since there are no SW Keys needed to unlock as most everything is a VL edition.
