I am looking for a decent, free photo editor.

I am weaning myself from MicroSoft Office. They recently killed support for Office 2003 which has been good to me for a long time. They won't allow you to activate it any more.

So I am ok with Open Office for word processing and spreadsheets, but I miss my MicroSoft Office Picture Manager.

Any suggestions?

Gimp is very good (and free) but may be overkill for what you do or may lack some specific
feature you need.

There are basically two versions with one being considerably more powerful but more complicated than the other..

Has terrific community support. Is actively being developed. Fairly light weight footprint. Has a ton of free third-party plug-ins. And it's free!

I thought I would add this to the thread in the event that others are looking for options along the lines of Photoshop, but without the price tag.
