Firefox Slowdown

Over the past month or so I've been experiencing a major slowdown in performance in Firefox (not the PC or Internet, Chrome works fine). I tried their solution of how to speed things up and it worked for 5 or 10 minutes and then slowed down again.
Thanks for any help...

I've found that the best solution is to reinstall Firefox versus going through all of the troubleshooting steps. You might want to jot down whatever Add-ons that you have and be certain that you have passwords available.

(running 37.0.1 here), as I've been having similar problems.

Doing a refresh has helped (I presume that was the solution you tried), but I still sometimes need to restart it during a session where I've had a bunch of tabs open, as it gobbles up RAM and spikes my CPU.

A recent update also knocked out Vine (not a great loss, to be honest), and no fixes suggested online have worked for me so far.

Maybe the next update will improve things (yeah, I'm an optimist).

Worked fine for hours and even days. Turned out to be a bad memory stick.

Firefox is notorious for putting out versions that have problems with memory management/leaks from time to time (at least on certain computer systems), which are usually eventually corrected by an update if enough people report the problems There are no other symptoms of memory issues on our laptops here that would indicate a problem with physical memory. Even Firefox runs zippily enough for extended periods if I don't switch between sites a lot or have a number of tabs open simultaneously.

It's probably more to do with my hanging out on script-heavy sites like Twitter (and more and more media sites that insist on cluttering up their pages with annoying Flash autoplay content etc. nowadays), and likely some faulty interaction between the main Firefox program and Plugin Container.

It was barely running at all.

No sound for the past year or so.

Finally, to boot you had to F12 it.

Seems the CMOS battery was DEAD!

I got found a new one on amazon.com for sale for $6 and bought it hoping I'd figure out to install it.

Luckily, I figured out how to do it as Lenovo (!!) has taken down all of the tech support for older computers like this one.

After installing the new CMOS battery, everything (even the sound!) is working again.

All of this for a fix of $6.00!

You might see if you need a new CMOS battery. It is the battery that the time/date uses and if you start have time/date problems you need a new CMOS battery, esp. if it won't boot up.

As for Firefox, I just installed the most recent version and the most recent version of Thunderbird for email and guess what?

Everything is now working GREAT!!!

Best of luck getting your computer going good again!
