Tax time means going through tons of medical bills and really, paperwork is not my strong point.

Surgery #4 seems to be successful and I don't have to wear a helmet anymore (not that I actually wore it, but I have it)

Touchpads can be tricky, with electrostatic energy, sometimes moisture, they can act up.

You might have a place in Win7 or 8 to check hardware-- I never moved beyond XP.

Hopefully you have a usb mouse you can plug in?

no mouse ... I guess I need to go buy one.

tax time. ugh. still have not done mine. swear I am waiting til the 14th. you think paper work is not your strong suit? dude. I used to be somewhat good at the stuff, worked in an office and was on top of things like a boss. Something happened somewhere along the way, about ten years ago and I don't know why but, papers of all kinds especially, legal/technical/directional FREAK ME OUT.
At one point, I could not read anything ... not even novels for pleasure (I have been reading since the age of two). I finally got past that and can read for pleasure now but, not often. and Still ... paperwork FREAKS ME OUT.

It takes me two whole days just to pay my bills and then I have to spend that evening on the sofa ... good for nothing except watching a movie and eating popcorn.

glad to hear the #4 (wow) is successful. here is hoping it is the last one.

The cursor works on my login page. Is there some way to get to system restore from that page?

Try this: http://www.howtogeek.com/107511/how-to-boot-into-safe-mode-on-windows-8-the-easy-way/

If the mouse pointer is working there, try a system restore.

Do I understand right? Is the mouse working until the screen saver comes up?
If so, try turning off the screen saver. It's not necessary.

it went to that damn tiles page it froze again.

have I mentioned how much I hate Windows8 and those fucking tiles.

I will work with it some more later on ... maybe this wkend.

I don't know. I still have to file my taxes and that is enough stress for the week, I think.

But, thanks for the link.

If you're sure that you don't owe and you'll get a refund, there is no penalty for filing a bit late.
You still get the refund. The best advice is still to file on time.

Best of luck.

once my screensaver page pops up is when it is freezing up. and I can't move it to click on any icons to get to my control panel.

I guess I will have to try this safe mode method that is in the link you gave me. Thanks.

I will let you know if it works. Probably won't mess with it til this wkend though.
