so I made my first little movie

from a video clip with my horse and the presumably public domain s/w that came w/my system. It's a .wmv file made in Windows Moviemaker. I am on IE with silverlight. I have renamed the file. I have removed as much adblock and malware block s/w as I can remember that I have. And I still cannot upload it to youtube. I get the message "the server has returned an invalid response."

Any suggestions?

I haven't uploaded to Youtube in years, but this older solution worked for me once:

http://www.webmastertools.bz/youtube-error-server-has-returned-an-invalid-response/

Are you trying to upload a YouTube video and getting an error like this? Server has returned an invalid response. The server has rejected the file.

This is likely from you trying to upload an HD video more than 15 minutes. It will give you this error, but for some reason YouTube won't tell you it's because it's too long. They just give that generic error that leaves us scratching our heads.

You will find many people saying they solved it by silly means, which don't work. You might read advice to try Google in incognito mode, or try IE, or use the old upload interface, or connect the ethernet cable directly instead of going through a router, or even download special software (which you don't need). If you're getting the 'Server has returned an invalid response' error, it's likely it's none of those. Instead you simply need to register with YouTube to upload longer videos.

How To Increase YouTube Video Upload Limit Beyond 15 Minutes

To upload HD videos longer than 15 minutes and avoid the error, do this, go to this link and apply: https://www.youtube.com/my_videos_upload_verify

If you're approved, you should instantly be able to upload videos without seeing that stupid error. Hope that helps you!

my blogspot blog rejected is as being too large (>100mb). My system shows it as 30mb. Who knows...

and got the same error.

Downloading another browser is my last option. I think I'll try just googling the error message and see what comes up. I've found a lot of solutions that way...

To get a flv version of the movie. You upload your movie to an online video converter and it will produce a flv you can download.) Then see if Youtube will accept that version.

I didn't want to have to download another browser. Forgot that I already had chrome on it, which I haven't used for a couple years. I found it by accident while looking for something else so gave it a shot.

Voila!
