I am using Wordpress thru DreamHost and am not happy. Any recommendations
for a total novice? My Wordpress site has been hacked and DreamHost doesnt provide help at least that I am aware of. I have tried to restore to an earlier time but it wasnt successful.

(47,675 posts)The easiest thing to do is establish a new account with a new password and post an update on the old account that says "here's where I am now. Please subscribe to the new one."

(47,675 posts)Make the password totally different and just add the text and graphics as if you'd never had one before. They you can abandon the old "hacked" Wordpress account.

(55,981 posts)Currently the only problem I am having is that when the sight url is enter into Windows Internet Explorer it gets redirected to sight that my norton says is dangerous. My research on the internets makes me think someone has entered code into the sight's code. I dont know anything about how to access or fix the "code".

(8,244 posts)I would definitely start by calling tech support for DreamHost and see what information you could get that way, if you have not already tried that.
Depending how much time you have invested it might be easiest to just uninstall and re-install Wordpress.
I would start making sure any important content is backed up, and getting ready to nuke the whole install, starting over fresh. The host company might have a backup service but you could just copy and paste all your important content if you want, to get it out faster.
Instead of deleting everything and starting over, you could also try to figure out what happened and try to undo it, but that is a riskier option because I guess something could get missed. Also that's probably going to take a little more in depth knowledge, including at least an ssh login account if you're on a linux/unix system.
There seems to be a few people out there having a similar problem during the month of February. DreamHost may know something about it, so I would call them first.
