Bury North MP David Nuttall used questions to the home secretary in the House of Commons to voice his concern.
His statement was met with baffled muttering from other MPs and given short shrift by Theresa May.
During a session that covered a range of topics, including child sexual exploitation among older teenagers, Conservative Mr Nuttall said: Does my Right Honourable friend agree with me that if 16 and 17-year-olds are given the vote it increases the likelihood that they will be regarded and treated as adults - and therefore increases the likelihood of them become victims of sexual exploitation?

Personally, I don't think much of the idea of lowering the voting age to 16 as I think that we should be doing more to encourage those already at voting age to use their democratic rights more. But Nuttall's argument is undeniably bizarre.

(41,210 posts)'Nuttall handed PM David Cameron a petition for an in/out referendum on Britain's membership in the EU after he got 100,000 signatures calling for it. Afterwards, Cameron said he would not back such a referendum saying "it is in Britain's interest to remain in the EU". [13] On 5 February 2013 Nuttall voted against in the House of Commons Second Reading vote on same-sex marriage in Britain.[14]
In 2013 Nuttall was one of four MPs who camped outside Parliament in a move to facilitate parliamentary debate on what they called an Alternative Queens Speechan attempt to show what a future Conservative government might deliver.[15] Some 42 policies were listed including reintroduction of the death penalty and conscription, privatizing the BBC, banning the burka in public places and preparation to leave the European Union.[15]
In 2014 Nuttall along with six other Conservative Party MPs voted against the Equal Pay (Transparency) Bill which would require all companies with more than 250 employees to declare the gap in pay between the average male and average female salaries.[16]
In October 2015 Nuttall joined with Conservative MPs Philip Davies and Christopher Chope to "talk out" a private members' bill intended to limit hospital parking charges for carers.[17]'
As the Skin implies, Nuttall seems to be All-Nuts!

Although given that the last Labour MP for Bury North went to jail for fiddling his expenses it would appear that this constituency hasn't had the best of luck with its MP's. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-12127327
