Nick Griffin expelled by BNP

The British National Party says it has expelled its ex-leader Nick Griffin.

In a statement, the BNP accused him of trying to "destabilise" the party and "harassing" party members.

In a tweet, Mr Griffin took issue with the decision, accusing the party leadership of "plastic gangster games".

It also accused him of "harassing members of BNP staff and in at least one case making physical threats" as well as publishing e-mails giving a false account of his own financial affairs after he was declared bankrupt in January.

Many of their old members have jumped ship to the English Democrats, many of their voters have jumped on the UKIP bandwagon, and the EDL has superceded the BNP as the preferred option for skinheads looking for someone to beat up.

These are the ideological descendants of Oswald Mosley's 1930s Blackshirts. Griffin used to be openly anti-semitic, but when that was not winning him much support, and making many people hate him, he concentrated more on race, and anti-Muslim rabble-rousing. The BNP are the only people in British politics to talk about 'miscegenation' (it is a word most of us have to look up), and had rules about not letting people of non-northern European descent join (until these were declared illegal).

To England's shame, they won a couple of EU parliament seats in 2009 (with about 6% of the vote). But since then, their idiocy has turned away nearly all of the support they had. Some have undoubtedly gone to UKIP, but they at least realise they should pay lip service to racial equality, and don't have policies like repatriating people based on skin colour.
