‘David Cameron is stupid and inefficient’: Argentinian ambassador to UK launches shocking attack on Prime Minister over Pope’s stance on Falkands

Argentina’s ambassador to the UK has launched a shocking attack on David Cameron, branding the Prime Minister “stupid and inefficient’ for criticising the Pope’s stance on the Falkland Islands.

Alicia Castro made her controversial comments during a speech to the Argentine senate. She was immediately asked by fellow politicians if she felt it appropriate to refer to Mr Cameron as “stupid” in parliament, but Ms Castro refused to go back on her words and later described Cameron as “foolish”.

How many different directions can you be pulled by a single headline? Yes, he is a congenital idiot, no, the Bishop of Rome's opinion on anything is worthless, and it's nice to see Argentina's diplomats are as charming as their football team.

about a man who stood in a street in Moscow, and shouted 'Brezhnev is an idiot!'

He was arrested and sentenced to 21 years in prison: one year for sedition, and 20 years for revealing a state secret.

I wonder if Theresa May and the other security-nuts are now going to investigate who revealed this deep dark state secret to Argentina!

And yes, this 'diplomat' does seem to be in the wrong job.

(and perhaps also as regards any 'lowly' non-elite US-UK considerations), as far as I've been able to observe from here, this does appear to be a fair characterisation.

I'd say that she was just about as suitable for the post of ambassador, as Cameron is for the post of Prime Minister!

The latter, of course, sadly carries more power.

I thought we tried to be reasonably respectful to other countries in this group?

And Argentina isn't invading anywhere now. That was under the vicious dictator Galtieri, who was indeed a bastard, not least to his own people.

The current lot are indeed, I'm sure, trying to deflect voters' attention from their economic crisis by a bit of rah-rah-rah dog-whistling and sabre-rattling - equivalent to British politicians making rabble-rousing speeches about the EU and immigration. I'm sure they won't be invading the Falklands again (with whose money and whose army?)

...but for me, the main difference between the two is that the Falklands invasion was a cynical attempt to divert the attention of an increasingly hostile Argentine population away from the real problems at home and get them to start waving the flag...ironically just like Maggie did during the entire process to much better effect..

Whereas the Iraq invasion was a criminal enterprise from beginning to end...
