Much as I disagree with them, I can have some respect for people who think that the free-market system is more efficient than socialism; who think that poor people need help but the government is not the best source of help; who cannot readily imagine anything other than a free market system; or even for people who openly admit that they prefer such a system for selfish reasons.

But I reserve my purest hatred for people who think that free-marketeering, cuts in the welfare sate, and reducing protection for workers are 'deeply moral'. Either they are dishonest, or they do honestly believe that poor or otherwise disadvantaged people deserve harsh treatment. And of the two, I prefer the dishonest.
