CTV News is projecting that former federal cabinet minister Jason Kenney’s United Conservative Party has won a majority in Alberta’s provincial election, unseating Rachel Notley and ushering in a return to the centre-right for the province.

3. Well, we all knew the NDP win in Alberta would be short-lived.

And it may come back again. The conservatives are going to go back to the same ol' same ol' that caused a bunch of the problems in Alberta in the first place. So yeah, we're going to have a couple of big ugly Conservative majorities for a while (with Dougie in Ontario), but with some of those comments we've seen recently from Maxime Bernier, I think that we're going to see some push-back against the right in Canada once again. I'm not super-excited about the next federal election, and I'd hate to see Scheer win, but I suspect he might after several mis-steps from Trudeau.

Also, why do "conservatives" always start their victory speeches with "<geographical region> is open for business!!" ? It's gross. The citizens are your priority, not the corporations.

4. "Open for business"

Appeals to those who want the economy to come roaring back, but are blind to see that the Conservative government failed to diversify the Alberta economy over decades and also failed to put away a significant portion of the incredible amount of wealth that flooded into the province for so many years. Jason Kenney is not bringing back the oil sands.

I'm glad you acknowledge "several mis-steps from Trudeau." He has faltered. He would do the party a favor to step aside, IMO. Even though he's still a far better option than Scheer, the Liberals will pay a price for retaining him as leader.

6. I like Trudeau, but I didn't vote for him.

I'm a federal NDP voter and have been for a long time. And I do like Jagmeet Singh, and I will likely vote NDP next election, though I've just moved and I need to find out more about my new riding. Formerly it was a very safe NDP/Liberal riding. Now I'm not so sure. I'm hoping that Bernier will strip some votes from Scheer from the far right.

But yeah, Trudeau had a lot of potential but has been a disappointment. I was most disappointed right out of the gate when he scrapped electoral reform.

7. Agreed. Dropping electoral reform so quickly was a mistake

Many people voted for him on that basis. It's obvious that revamping the electoral system would likely cut into the Liberals' number of seats so Trudeau just jettisoned the idea.

He could have overcame that, I think, but the SNC Lavalin scandal, the way he treated the Indigenous protester at the fundraising dinner, the recent changes to immigration policy and the pending trial of Admiral Mark Norman are going to spell BIG trouble for our soon to be former Prime Minister.
