Liberals to restore mandatory long-form census

Source: Toronto Star

Restoring the long-form census will be among the first acts of the new Liberal government, which takes office Wednesday.

Prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau and his cabinet are expected to move quickly on the formal decision to reinstate the mandatory questionnaire that was axed by the Conservatives in 2010, the Star has learned.

The move, seen as vital by those who rely on the census data, is an important symbolic one, too, for the Liberals, demonstrating a commitment to science-based policy while taking the first steps of undoing the legacy of almost a decade of Conservative rule.

Without it there were not the stats on poverty, the need for social programs to address needs, etc, which served the Cons agenda.

I am really looking forward to the swearing in on Wednesday of Trudeau and his cabinet.

I was so disgusted when it was gotten rid of. The plight of so many completely (and deliberately) out of sight, out of mind.

Awesome!

...tell this to my RWNJ uncle. We had no contact for decades, until he shows up, fresh out of some west-coast dittohead cult, trying to start some kind of business(free-market ripoff) in MY HOME TOWN. Were it not for the blood-line.....

The "long form census" was the latest bone of contention between us and like all RWNJ's, the less we know about him the better he likes it.

It's not cruel to educate your family even if they find it painful.
