Orders of the Day - Let's get this New Democratic Party (leadership) started!
Greetings from beautiful downtown Toronto, which will likely be the centre of the Canadian political universe for the next 72 hours or so, as New Democrats from across the country gather -- both in person, and via the magic of online voting -- to elect the next Leader of Her Majesty's Loyal Opposition.
The action is already well underway at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, where the various and sundry leadership hopefuls -- and, of course, their respective camp followers -- are already hitting the registration lines to press the flesh with the party faithful, as well as pose for the obligatory photos.
The official welcoming ceremony kicks off at 12:30, which will be followed by the much-anticipated "candidate showcases" -- twenty minutes for each team to make one last pitch, at least one of which, we're advised, will involve a musical number -- and the first round of voting, with the official Day One programme closing on a sombre, but presumably ultimately uplifting note, with a tribute to Jack Layton.
