Exactly how dangerous is Stephen Harper?

Robo-gate, considered by many to be a concerted (if so far unproven) assault on democracy, has opened wide the simmering debate about Stephen Harper and his cronies. Are they reformers or revolutionaries? Are they simply a somewhat more ambitious form of the conservatism Canadians have known since John A., just a further notch or three along the traditional Canadian ideological continuum?

Here’s the problem. Both sides know with certainty the answer to these questions. Those of us who wouldn’t trust Stephen Harper if he told us today was Friday have no doubt who organized Robo-gate. In fact, I’m informed by a former Conservative operative familiar with both the party and technology that there’s far more to be revealed in this saga. This is said specifically to involve close ties between the Harperites and American Republicans who have been constructing a terrifying, full-blown voter suppression machine, as The Nation magazine, among others, has well documented and CBC Radio’s The Current has noted. I have no idea if this will be found to be true, but based on the record, it is surely not implausible.

So what policies have the Republicans taken over in our/their parliament?

Hopefully this will shine some light on the mess that Canadians have elected.

The Harper government is not your parents' Progressive Conservative party.

Off the bat it is obvious that there is no Sir John A. in Harper.

Sir John had to protect and defend what is now Canada from the south. This cabal wants to unite everthing with big money, or the Chicago school.(Everything is legit if I do it.)

There is a reason they are called Conservatives and not Progressive Conservatives!

2. Harper is very dangerous, after all he did say that you won't recognize Canada in four years!

The more disturbing thing to me is that Canadian's voted his Government in to a majority, knowing that he was dangerous. A recent poll that was done in Canada made clear that most Canadian's don't mind Toew's bill. So what does that say about the voting public?

A more substantive reference to the big mouth mustaches bill, I don't and won't accept your bald statement.

You read the article they talk about how many Canadians support this and how many that. I was not polled!

The article does not state how many were polled. How they were selected. What the questions were. How they were stated and in what circumstances.

In total I don't accept the poll. I didn't say I don't believe it. I say, I don't accept it.
It belongs in the Reform party and the Fraser Institute catagory!

Related to US politics, I have said on a number of occasions that voters should have to pass a course before they vote. Most voters vote for personality, or who knows what else?

8. If True
Fri Mar 2, 2012, 09:42 PM

It is not?

When one parses through and digs through statements they can find out who is pushing the idea and what are the weak points in the idea.

For instance, if the Republicans/Conservatives want to take over Noth America(First we take...), well then they have to control it! And that they would not be able to do. In fact they are having a hard time at the moment to control the USA.

Of course if the poll is true, it is hard to take. But one has to question what one is being fed as a fact. You, we, make the facts.

that the Liberals chose a Michael Ignateiff as there leader. How many times did we watch the ad that Ignateiff lived and worked in the US for 37 years before coming back to Canada? The Liberals F'ed up big time with that.

BC right now, (where I was born) is in deep shit! The Province finds itself between a rock and a hard place with a Liberal Government that has been in power to long, and an NDP (Extreme Left wing leader) that could end the Province in extreme debt. Who does one (BC Resident) vote for?

You have half of it correct. The Liberal party chose Iggy as its leader. Not the Liberals!
Iggy thought that torture was OK, sometimes. Iggy was appointed.
The Liberals elected Dion. The back room guys and Iggy removed him. Now they are in Alice In Wonderland.

Without people like Mel Hurtig providing alternate views we have fewer options.

I wouldn't give much relevance to the name BC Liberal or Quebec Liberal just as I wouldn't assign Conservative to Alberta as being descriptive on a provincial level to a Canadian political entity.

I have no idea about the NDP in BC.

Pierre didn't just show up from nowhere. He came to Ottawa as part of the three wise men, after Ontario Royalists/Loyalists had been put down with a Canadian flag and anthem.

And what is all this about Justin. He hasn't taken a canoe to Cuba! He hasn't said that he wants to or is trying to be a Pierre.

What do we have now? Nothing!

Absolutely nothing to choose from. Everthing is compared to what Harper is doing.

The NDP is no more far left than the Democratic party in the US. When they were in power they played with the big boys as much as any other party does. You're seriously buying into the media and BC liberal's crap about the NDP? They actually left the province in good shape, the so-called liberals are the ones who gave it away lock stock and barrel and bankrupted us.
