I watched Q & A last night and a woman from the audience asked what the Gillard government is going to do for all the people who are "hurting out there". She mentioned that with all the new taxes and high interest rates that have come about since Labor has been in power, they just can't manage.

Am I that out of touch? What new taxes is she talking about? Is it the Flood Levy? Is it the means testing on the health rebate? It cant be the mining tax because that hasn't happened yet and its only the mining companies that are taxed. It can't be the price on carbon because that hasn't happened yet either. I've come to the conclusion that if you tell someone often enough that they're doing it tough, they start to believe it. My husband and I are on a pension and we live within our means. We have occasional holidays and outings and we enjoy life to the utmost.

Tony Abbott knows that if he says something over and over again, it reinforces it as truth in the simple minds of the ones who are listening. "The Labor Government is a toxic government". "Julia Gillard is a liar". "Another great big new tax". "People are doing it tough out there". "This is the most disfunctional government in Australia's history".

It's about time a lot of people took a reality check and see how people are coping in other countries, thanks to the GFC. These people should take a holiday in Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Ireland or even the USA and they will soon see which side their bread is buttered on.

When it was pointed out (by Craig Emerson, I think) that the carbon tax had not yet kicked in, she sat there with a stupid look on her face. She's just mouthing what she's heard from Abbott & Co., and knows nothing and understands less. There are a lot like her out there.

And isn't it strange how the people yelling the loudest seem to come from the highest economic demographic? "Oh my god, we're only on $260,000 a year, how are we going to pay for the loss of the health rebate?" "When you've got a house with twenty rooms, electricity costs a bundle. It's all Labor's fault".

And now TAbbott is promising a subsidy for these hard-done-by people so they can pay for their nannies.

It's a hard life ...

5. I think that we are better off

The only tax that has come into being which hasnt even happened yet is the 'Carbon Tax' so and whoever the woman was,well she should check her facts out.
Tony Abbott is nothing more that a 'Mr.Negative' always has been and always will be.He has never got over the fact that the Independants and Greens put Julia Gillard into power.He never will get over it either.
Tony Abbott will NEVER be PM as there are more 'brilliant' people in the Liberal/NP than him.Malcom Turnbull should challenge him and then at least there should be a fight.Julia Bishop is totally useless and hasn't got the bottle.
Tony Abbott is always putting the Labor Government down and people are now waking up to the fact that he is just a mouth piece and nothing else.
Australia is better of now than what we were 10 years ago.It was the Howard Government and the Bush Administration as well as the Blair Government who started the GFC and they were the ones who basically brought the world to its knees,BUT of course they wont admit to it anyway.
I do remember Tony Abbott being the Health Minister in the Howard Government and if you email him and remind him of that,he dosent like it and tells you that he didn't do anything wrong.I am sorry Mr.Abbott BUT you are nothing more that a little boy in a three piece suit trying to do the job that someone else should be doing and could do.
I suggest that Mr.Abbott,just drift into the background and crawl under the nearest rock and stay there
