National Park Service proposes raising Yellowstone entrance fee to $70

Federal officials are proposing more than doubling entrance fees during peak times of the year at Yellowstone National Park and more than a dozen other parks to deal with the National Park Service’s maintenance backlog.

The National Park Service has proposed raising the per-vehicle fee at Yellowstone to $70 from May 1 to Sept. 30. The current vehicle rate is $30.

The fee hike is part of a broad proposal that includes 17 national parks across the country, including Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming and Glacier National Park in northwestern Montana. The cost of an annual pass to Yellowstone would also increase, and the cost of entering on foot or via motorcycle would double.

The agency is accepting public comment on the proposal until Nov. 23. It wants to implement the fee increases in 2018.
