A Wisconsin Public Radio-St. Norbert College survey shows divided public opinion in Wisconsin on both Gov. Scott Walker and the state Legislature.

Walker has a 50 percent approval rating, a number that's held relatively static over the last several years, according to Wendy Scattergood, a political scientist and an associate with St. Norbert College's Strategic Research Institute, which conducted the survey.

“He's been pretty steady,” said Scattergood.

She said Walker was polling at 52 percent in the spring of 2012, and has been a little above 50 percent since then. The current figures are an improvement from his 38 percent approval rating in the fall of 2011.

In terms of getting a second term, Walker's numbers are just a bit lower. The survey shows that 46 percent of people say he does deserve re-election, 49 percent say he does not, and 6 percent aren’t sure.

Scattergood said the people in the sample “are not 'likely voters'; these are just Wisconsin adult residents.”

The poll has a 5 percent margin of error.

it is just toooooo early for pools. On the other hand, now that emily's list has endorsed Burke, it seems to more likely that we will not have a Dem primary. We need a good baseline to start with from PPP

4. Makes sense at this point

There is no real notable name really running, the GOP special interests are always running political ads outside political seasons (baffles me in MN) and there is no opposition large media outreach in the state. WPR has too much air time to fill so they are center right overall (and father right on individual shows), WUWM is slightly better but not much. The state turns on the outstate numbers outside Dane County and the blue college cities. I know it is a tough order and you need a large amount of funds nowadays but that is what is needed as the WI GOP is vastly overreaching on almost a daily basis based on what is posted here. The people really have to act on this over-reach, they need to be shown how it effects them to get views changed. WI will not stay red forever on a state level.

Democrats need a candidate for Governor the people of the state can rally behind to win in November 2014. The same old electorate will lead to the same old results. We need to bring in new voters if we want to win an election and win new progressive policies.
