MADISON Former Trek Bicycle executive Mary Burke has officially entered the race for governor.
Burke, a Democrat, made the announcement this morning. The Harvard-educated former business executive has also led the Wisconsin Department of Commerce.
Burke is the daughter of Richard Burke, who founded Trek Bicycle in 1976 in Waterloo. She worked for the company in a variety of capacities, including as its director of European operations, helping to start and oversee companies in seven countries.
Burke left Trek in 2005, when then-Gov. Jim Doyle tapped her to serve as Commerce Department secretary. She held the post for two years.
Republican Gov. Scott Walker is seeking re-election in 2014 after winning the governor's office in 2010 and surviving a recall last year.
Don't know to much about her.....anyone else?? Whats the chance she could win??

(53,475 posts)She can afford to fund her own campaign though.
As far as values, please put me in Kathleen Vinehout's camp. I don't know if she has the financial backing (sad, eh?) or on-camera charm needed, but we need her values in Madison.

(45,274 posts)The problem is getting her there.
She needs a speech coach, for one thing.
I supported her in the recall primary, but she got something like 5% of the Democratic vote.

(3,577 posts)She's on the Madison school board. And the Republicans will work in the word Madison in every sentence.

(3,577 posts)We need someone who actually upholds Democratic values, and a candidate who doesn't come from Milwaukee or Madison would be a plus. Count me as a Vinehout supporter also, and I look forward to working for her election (can't say the same about Burke).

I will happily vote for a DINO over Walker.
